Downloading Seismic Studio for Linux

Quick link to special notes

You can find the latest version of Seismic Studio Linux below. Download and extract the archive to install. If you're updating, make sure you replace all when extracting. For configuration, please see the README file in the root directory.

README
CHANGELOG (linux specific)
Changelog (Seismic Studio General)

Download Seismic Studio Linux (v1.3.3):
32bit Full Install tar/gz
32bit Update (NOTE: Updating to v1.3.3 required an update to mono, so use the full install)tar/gz
64bit Full Install tar/gz
64bit Update (NOTE: Updating to v1.3.3 required an update to mono, so use the full install)tar/gz

To update, download this archive to the same folder as the SeismicStudioLinux directory, then extract it. It will update the required files and directories. If you have problems with the updater (it's missing something from updating a very very old version), please use the full installer with the same process. The updater is just a smaller download (8mb vs. 40mb)

Download Sentinel Keys Linux: tar/gzip archive (17.2mb)

Special Notes (12/31/07)

Sorry about the lack of updates. Both downloads seem to have gotten corrupted, so I'm re-uploading them. You can also find it mirrored at our ftp site. Well, sorta, the download there includes the 32 bit, 64bit and the Sentinel utilities in one archive.

We are working on a huge graphics refactor. Our backbone drawing system went through an overhaul and I am working on adapting our current GUI windows to use this. It has shown significant performance improvement on large surveys (almost 50% drawing increase on a basemap with 47,000 shots) on windows. Additionally, it is removing all XOR drawing and has turned all drawing into 100% managed code, which should be fully compatible with linux. This will make it easier to port some of our complex GUIs (like the Conventional Picker window) and make them easier to maintain and support on Linux. The framework is pretty much there. The picker window is about 90% there. Subsequent windows will be less complex and should fall together quite easily. We should have a decent selection of rewritten windows (they'll operate the same, just turbo charged!) by mid january. This release should also support flex LM as an option for licensing on linux as well.

Documentation and help files on this site are a tad outdated as well. I should have those updated on next linux version release, as described above.

Special Notes (9/12/07)

Added in some missing libraries for standalone installations that some distros were missing by default. Will add more in as issues pop up.

Special Notes (9/11/07)

Please note that there was an update to the Mono Framework, so when updating to v1.3.3, please use the full installer!! This update was vital in fixing several of the overlay issues in the GUI we were having.

64 bit had some improvements due to better management of address spaces.

Special Notes (6/6/07)

64bit now works! SafeNet responded to our work order with a 64bit shared object, so sentinel licensing works on 64bit linux now. It is now available and supported for 64bit systems.

Special Notes (5/25/07)

Released! Please send windows->linux migration issues and support requests for the linux version to eric morgan (eric@rengeo.com).

Special Notes (5/15/07)

OK, should be back in business. Have things stable, just a couple of GUI glitches, but should otherwise be pretty usable. The rest of this week is going to be devoted to packaging it and bundling all the appropriate stuff in order to make CDs to distribute. Also, we're working on testing it internally. Might try to hand it to Chuck and watch him break it. Please see the status report to see what issues it has before reporting a bug. Really, the issues it has right now are not enough to prevent it from being released. We need to get it "over the fence". Issues will continue to be patched, as discussed in the status report.

Special Notes (4/17/07)

There has been some crazy technical delays as of late. Since most processing shops are using redhat/fedora/linux, I decided to stray from the SuSE route. Well, in the process of installing redhat, something on my linux motherboard freaked out and hard drive access times were taking literally 10 times as long (It took 7 hours to install redhat. No joke). Testing and development on that machine was toast. So, I had to install on an old computer which I've been trying to get back up to speed in the 32bit world.

Good: I can resume development on our 32bit version and hopefully provide some redhat rpms.
Bad: My old hardware died
Good: I have a shiny new 64bit machine with redhat on it.
Bad: It's 64bit and I can't develop the 32bit version on it
Good!: We'll be supporting 64bit soon!
Bad: Our licensing library is mysteriously failing on 64bit and the developers of it are being shady about it.

Special Notes (4/5/07)

Here is a sample log of me installing Seismic Studio into /usr/local. Please notice that the entire install and configuration must be done as root when installing into this location, as the setup script modifies files in this directory structure. The errors at the end are because I left my license server set to localhost and I have no key plugged in.

Extra Note: This sample log is probably worthless now, since the setup and config procedure has changed a little. BUT, I'm leaving it up here just for completeness, I guess.

Special Notes (3/6/07)

-If you get a 301 error code when first setting up the licensing, keep clicking the button until it works. I think it's just a synch issue, but it will be resolved. Licensing should work fine if your sntlconfig.xml file is already set up with the correct server host

-Please note update instructions, if you have already installed the Linux version. This will update your Seismic Studio installation only, instead of everything (which includes mono). Download size is SIGNIFICANTLY lower.

-Version number is still 1.2.98, in order to keep in synch with the windows version. I don't want two version numbers running around.

Special Notes (2/27/07)

-Once a hotkey button loses focus, it can't get it again. This means you have one shot at setting a hotkey, or you have to close down the picker window. (severe)
update: Submitted a bug to Mono. Could be a while, so I may just hack it until then.

-Rubberbanding not showing up on certain controls (zoom lines, line drawing, polygon stuff).
update: Submitted a bug to Mono. No response on this one yet, and this is a hard thing to hack up, without rewriting a LOT of our graphics stuff.

Special Notes (2/23/07)

-We are still in beta. Taking longer than expected (always happens in software development). Please keep that in mind when using this software.

-It's a debug version, so there's going to be LOTS of output on the command line. Don't panic. It's mostly just tracing information. It also may be a little slower.

-Hot keys still wigging out a little. It's having focusing issues. I don't know why. I'm about ready to break something.

Special Notes (1/22/07)

-Hot keys still not fixed yet, as it's more severe than I though. No errors are being thrown anywhere, but things still aren't being set up right. It might be a null check that's causing it to skip over a block of code for some reason, but everything is working on windows... Sorry for the delay, I'm working as fast as I can on a fix.

Special Notes (1/17/07)

-I have a new version, but due to hot keys being totally hosed, I'm not going to release it until I fix it tomorrow. Download at your own risk for now - you may need to update later

Special Notes (1/11/07)

-PLEASE BACK UP YOUR PROJECTS AND DATA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is in beta testing still, so make sure that you're prepared for the catastrophes a beta can present. We can not be held responsible for corruption that happens during this stage, so make sure your stuff is backed up. Please!

-Since we are still in a beta stage, project trees and directory structures are still subject to change. So, when release hits, you may need to reinstall Seismic Studio.

-Please note that you will have to muck with your sntlconfig.xml file manually for licensing to work for now. This should be fixed very soon. Once you've opened up Seismic Studio and configured the host name in the License Server window, close down Seismic Studio. Now, copy your sntlconfig.xml file to the same directory as your mono executable is installed. This will allow you to contact the license server properly, as the Sentinel drivers look in the executable directory, which is actually mono and not Seismic Studio.

rengeo@linux-sg4w:~/SeismicStudio> which mono
/home/rengeo/mono-1.2/bin/mono
rengeo@linux-sg4w:~/SeismicStudio> cp sntlconfig.xml /home/rengeo/mono-1.2/bin/
rengeo@linux-sg4w:~/SeismicStudio> ll /home/rengeo/mono-1.2/bin/ |grep sntlconfig.xml
-rw-r--r-- 1 rengeo users 1369 2007-01-11 15:47 sntlconfig.xml
rengeo@linux-sg4w:~/SeismicStudio>

-There are several graphical glitches still present. You may need to resize windows, or click on "load options", "reload plot", etc to get things to refresh and draw properly. We are aware of these issues and they will be resolved soon. Some of the XOR stuff is still broken, so zoom lines, rubberbanding, line drawing, and pen picking may have some graphical glitches. They still work, you're just flying a little blind.
